Sales Pitch
An underrated 3-and-D prospect with a high basketball IQ who makes impactful plays without scoring.
Background
Anytime you find a potential NBA prospect from the collegiate hoops factory that is Villanova, you pay a little extra attention. This year, sophomore wing Saddiq Bey looks to entice teams with his versatility on both sides of the ball. Bey made a notable jump across the board in terms of production in his sophomore season, as he was asked to be a focal point of Jay Wright's offense this year for the Wildcats. Saddiq will intrigue NBA organizations as he projects to become an immediate 3-and-D asset at the next level.

Positives

OUTSIDE SHOOTING

  • Quick-release from deep. Comfortable with shooting off the bounce or in Spot Up situations. Capable shooter off of the dribble as well. Ranked in the 98th percentile when it came to Spot Up offense (Via Synergy). Not afraid to shoot it in transition as well.

BASKETBALL IQ

  • Shows a strong basketball IQ on both sides of the ball. Understands the game. Locates shooters, cuts with a purpose, and understands angles and spacing.

DEFENSIVE VERSATILITY

  • Good team defender who does a great job of staying active and communicating. Should be a switchable asset with his combination of frame and length. Works hard and plays with a lot of effort defensively.
Negatives

EXPLOSIVENESS

  • Doesn't possess that explosive first step to blow by defenders. Uses his strength to bully his way to the basket. He shows patience when attacking, but could struggle against bigger opponents at the next level.

BALL HANDLING

  • Will need to develop as a ball-handler at the next level. Utilizes a spin dribble frequently when he's initially stopped. Developing his counters could go a long way towards his development.
Overall
Each draft class features a prospect that sneaks through the cracks of the predraft process. A prospect that might deserve more attention than he deserves, but somehow finds himself landing in the perfect destination come draft night. This year, that prospect could be Saddiq Bey. Teams will be intrigued by the skillset that Bey will offer. He's a high basketball IQ individual, who projects to potentially make an immediate impact as a 3-and-D type of player. With Bey's awareness on both sides of the ball combined with his defensive versatility and an underrated offensive game...he could become a steal come draft day if he falls into the hands of the right team.
